Users tune in via video technology to hear the expert speak, gain information and ask pertinent questions. In other words, a webinar is like a more interesting online lecture where users get to participate.

There are a variety of benefits to having your very own webinar, most of which lead to getting your product name and business out into the open. Here are just a few benefits of having a webinar:

Webinars Are Low Cost

That’s right! All you need is a video camera, and most laptops are equipped with those. Decide a topic you want to speak on, schedule a time and market your webinar via your social media channels. That’s it! Marketing doesn’t get much more affordable.

The reasons webinars work is because viewers get to participate. Develop a hashtag to filter questions and allow users to ask whatever questions they want. If you don’t want to use Facebook or Twitter, you can also have users call in via Skype at the end of the lecture to allow time for questions.

A great bonus of having your own webinars is that you can measure the amount of response. When you market your informational session, have people opt-in, or register ahead of time. That way you can measure how many people are interested, how many people attended and how many people asked for more information after the session. Webinars are like free marketing metrics!

Wondering how to get started? First, you should have a topic in mind. Find something pertinent to your business or product where you can be considered a well-informed source of information. Next, schedule a time to hold your webinar (try to avoid late nights and early mornings. Midday webinars are typically best). Here are some more tips for holding a successful webinar:

  • Find a quiet, clutter free space without anything busy in the background
  • Leave plenty of time for attendees to ask questions
  • Speak clearly and concisely and keep a conversational tone – webinars are supposed to be informal
  • Have a PowerPoint presentation prepared ahead of time and be sure to rehearse so you are familiar with the material
